Integrating wellness into building design
luuceo began working with BCIT at the end of August 2020 as an Owner’s Representative for sustainability services on the HSC. One of the key objectives was identifying and collecting documentation to support the owner requirements under the WELL Building Standard. luuceo has acted on BCIT’s behalf during the WELL certification process, being the key liaison between BCIT and the design team.
luuceo facilitated over 50 sessions with BCIT and the Project team to achieve BCIT’s goals for the Project. Additionally, luuceo led the documentation development on the owner’s behalf, including the drafting professional narratives, standard operating materials, and operations schedules in alignment with the WELL Building Standard.

Some project features include:

- A 4-storey feature wall. This beautiful design, will continuously expand from the first floor to the fourth
- Indigenous Glazing Films are being installed on 62 windows on the South West corner of HSC building. These overlook the building’s social stairs so students and staff are able to appreciate the entire design in one go.
- 60 EV Charging Stalls: The building will be home to 60 Level 2 electric vehicle chargers, a project which received funding from Natural Resources Canada.
- Simulations that uniquely replicate hospital workflows
- Flexibility for future changes in education practices
