Sustainability Advisory for Campus Development
British Columbia Institute of Technology
Sustainable vision
for campus design
The British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) actively supports innovation that protects British Columbia’s natural environment while supporting the province socially and economically. In 2019, an intense stakeholder feedback process was engaged with the Institution’s students, faculty, staff and partners to develop a path for the continued integration of sustainability through BCIT policies, practices, and culture. The product of this collaboration was BCIT’s Sustainability Vision detailing the intent, areas of focus and Institute accountabilities for sustainability priorities withing the organization.

luuceo has worked with BCIT as a sustainability advisor since early 2020 to enhance their sustainability and resilience best practices for campus development projects such as the Student Plaza, Health Sciences Centre, Cultural Space, and Rainwater Harvesting Project. We have also worked on BCIT’s behalf to explore the feasibility and application of different sustainability frameworks on campus including the Envision framework for sustainable infrastructure, the WELL Building Standard, and Passive House.
luuceo worked closely with BCIT to conduct a gap analysis on current best practices for project delivery and management to identify opportunities for enhanced sustainability and resilience on campus development projects. We mapped BCIT’s policies and approach to infrastructure project delivery to Envision and identified opportunities for both project-specific improvements and organizational improvements.
We have facilitated multi-disciplinary integrated design sessions with BCIT and their partners to identify Project goals and objectives, conduct chartering, and determine the most effective and feasible strategies for improving project sustainability on campus.
